Danny Ainge is trying desperately to trade the Celtics 3rd overall pick before Thursday’s NBA Draft, but he is apparently running into trouble.

Per Marc Stein of ESPN,

Sources told ESPN that the Celtics, to date, have been rebuffed in their efforts to assemble a sufficiently enticing deal to acquire any of these four prime targets: Chicago Bulls All-Star swingman Jimmy Butler, Utah Jazzguard Gordon Hayward and Milwaukee Bucks teammates Jabari Parker or Khris Middleton.

Stein also wrote that the Utah Jazz are unwilling to move Gordon Hayward, but there seems to be conflicting reports on his availability.

The Milwaukee Bucks view Jabari Parker and Khris Middleton as cornerstones to their franchise and are untouchable, according to Stein.

Philly seems to be the one of the lone trade partners for the Celtics, but it is Boston seems reluctant on pulling the trigger on any deal with the 76ers.

The Philadelphia 76ers, sources say, have been trying for some time to convince the Celtics to part with the No. 3 pick in a deal headlined by Sixers big man Jahlil Okafor or teammate Nerlens Noel, but Boston, to date, has resisted those pitches.‎

If they were going to make a deal with the 76ers, the debate now becomes Noel or Okafor. Noel is the better defender, but inept offensively. Okafor is the far and away better player offensively, but struggled defensively in his rookie season. If they were morphed into two players, the Celtics would do the deal in a heartbeat — the same cannot be said for Philly in that hypothetical– but they are not and if the Celts don’t like anyone after the draft they should make the deal regardless of the player.

Both players are young and solid building blocks for the future.

It is concerning for the Celtics, however,  that no team wants to make a deal. The fact that franchises don’t value the future Brooklyn picks hurts Boston going forward as they have no legit NBA bodies that carry any trade weight.
