Forget all that draft talk nonsense. NBA Free Agency is less than a week away and the Boston Celtics are going big game hunting. And it seems like they will at least be able to sit down and make their case to one of the biggest NBA stars – Kevin Durant.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical,
Durant’s representatives at Roc Nation are working to solidify invitations with the Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs and Thunder, league sources said.
The meetings are expected to take place in New York, but teams are still awaiting word on a location.
This is huge news for the Boston Celtics, who many didn’t even think the Celtics would get in the room with Durant. If they were to sign the seven time All Star , it would be their biggest free agent acquisition in the franchise’s history.
It should be noted that Woj also reported the Thunder remain the frontrunners in the free agent sweepstakes. In that scenario Durant could sign a one-year-deal and become a free agent in the summer of 2017 where he would fetch a significantly higher paycheck.
Wojnarowski also said the Golden State Warriors — a team more equipped to win a championship right away — had Durant’s attention.
The process should happen fast says Woj because Durant is going on a publicity tour in the Far East on July 9th, so a decision is expected to come before then.
